Specify Orbit Dialog

You might wonder why specifying the orbit is not part of the configure object dialogs. The reason is that there will be many occasions where only the orbit is to be changed, for instance in cases where the selected objects list is reordered. It would be rather inconvenient if one had to click through the complete configuration wizard in those cases.

... and what they do

Reference number of object to be orbited

The expression Reference number refers to the reference number that the object to be orbited gets in the ordered selected objects list (Ref-No in the configuration manager). If you enter zero, 'none' will appear in the selected objects list, meaning that the object in question is not in a circular orbit around another body.

Zero is the only value allowed for the first object in the list. Another condition to be satisfied is the following

       nOrbit  <   nObject

where nOrbit and nObject are the reference numbers the orbited and orbiting objects get in the ordered selected objects list, respectively.

Save & Continue

Saves the reference number you entered and continues with the configure object wizard.

Save & Quit

Saves the reference number you entered and quits the dialog returning to the configuration manager.

This button is disabled when you change from orbiting to non-orbiting and vice versa, because in those cases the configure object wizard is mandatory due to the fact that for an orbiting object two positions must be defined, whereas for a non-orbiting object an initial position and an initial velocity are to be specified.
